Hello,
When backing up some TV episodes and adding a chapter stop after the title sequence, I struck a problem with the very last episode. Here is the log -
| Code: | Read DVD from: *:\**\**\E11
Read VMG
Read VTS1
empty btn set: vob id=1, cell id=7, i=1, first=846 (1971:VobCell.cpp)
Recovering C_ADT & VOBU_ADMAP tables. (818:VobData.cpp)
Can't open title set vob - will substitute blanks. (881:VTS.cpp)
Cell #1 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=1) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp)
Cell #2 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=2) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp)
Cell #3 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=3) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp)
Cell #4 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=4) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp)
Cell #5 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=5) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp)
Cell #6 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=6) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp)
Cell #7 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=7) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp)
Cell #8 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=8) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp)
Cell #9 uses vobus (vobID=1, cellID=9) not pressent in vob file. Substituting blank cell instead. (2117:PGC.cpp) |
I've never had a problem before like this and am not sure what it means. I tried many different (although common) methods of getting the files on the HDD. On opening the files with DVDRP they all returned this log - YET...the epsiode plays fine in a player both from the Disc and the rip.
Could someone please help me understand what is happening and why? Seemed very odd when all the other episodes over several seasons opened in DVDRP as they should.
Thx.

| Seems like a bad rip. What ripper are you using? Try ripping again with the latest version. If still doesn't work, use FixVTS to fix it. |

Thx for the help. That's what I thought
I have ripped it numerous times - using many different techniques and different software (the latest versions). It always results in this log.
Last night I re-ripped the full disc (instead of just the title) and DVDRP loaded the full disc without error. So I added the chapter I wanted, exported it and while I got a good result - re-ripping the title only from the export still produces this result. Weird!
I did try FixVTS and this didn't work either. Gremlins!!
Last thing I did was load the full disc in DVDRP and mod it to remove everything else except this title. This seemed to work. The resultant modded IFO file when dropped over the original rip worked as expectation. Previous to this, dropping the modded IFO over the originals resulted in "out of place" chapter stops like the timing was out. However, ripping just the title again results in the same.
Not sure what to make of this one??
Not sure if an authoring issue on the disc could produce this. According to s/w, there is no scary authoring techniques used. Chalk this one up to "The Twilight Zone" |

Well I just got another couple of discs that did the same as above.
DVDRP will not work with them as a single title rip. So I ripped the whole disc and the number of "RED" issues using DVDRP was scary - never seen a disc like it. (DVDS doesn't show any unreferenced material either, which I thought was weird). They only way I could get this to work as I wanted was to use the whole disc and remove everything else apart from the title I wanted.
Not sure what is happening - wish I knew. |

| What software and version do you use to rip with? What are the red messages? They could be harmless warnings so you can ignore them or delete them. |

As per my original post I tried several different ways (and software) to get a HDD based backup. This time, it looks like the commercial program I'm using, even though the latest version, isn't producing the correct output. Using much older s/w I was able to backup the title and DVDRP opened it as it should. What was weird, is that there were two discs from the same TV series that had issues - while the other two were fine. The old ripper worked with one, but wouldn't work with the other. Another old program managed to take care of the 2nd disc. AT least I have it resolved at this point
Looks like I'll have to go post on their forum about this issue. Thx for the look Always appreciated.
UPDATE: Doh - after spending many hours on this, I finally discovered the problem. One of my DVD drives didn't have the region code set - and this seemed to be the problem. What is strange, is that I know I had it set. Can they revert? It still had five changes remaining though! Oh well, at least I found what it was and was lucky to find it on my own. |
