I am in the process of merging parts 1&2 of a series into a DVD9. Now the problem that I have is with modified buttons being highlighted in the initial root menu.
[Here's some background information; I have merged the two DVD5's into one film, and am looking at the standard Disk 1 and Disk 2 selection screen. I have modified a .bmp file as the new background and created two text options for the button links. I then shifted the Position of each button and linked the Adjacent button.]

When I select each button no visible change occurs so I don't know which film is being selected. Perhaps you can see my problem; I never know which movie is being selected in the root menu.

My second question is with an added button to the main menus of each film such that I can select part 2 from part 1 and vice versa. I have a similar problem because the original buttons highlight as I scroll through them, but my added button does not highlight and then none of the buttons become highlighted. In other words, set buttons 1-5 work until I scroll to button 6 and then none of the buttons are highlighted and the screen seems frozen.

There is probably a simple fix, but none of the guides answered my question(s).

Button highlights are in sub picture.
If the highlight is underline or some other sign next to a text, than you can modify text and import sub picture from original menu.
But if you move text, it will not line up any more.
If the text get highlighted, than you cannot change anything, not even text, unless you create complete new menu.

To your second question.
To do what you want you need to make a new menu in some menu editor or Photoshop, if you know how, and do highlight for additional button there.
Than you have to add command to that button after import.
Only one problem is that you cannon go from VTS1 to VTS2 directly, you have to use VMG PGC to go through.

Also, check the sticky List of Useful Topics, last post, regarding adding a button to existing menu. There are also many threads discussing this if you do a search. Any questions, feel free to ask.
