| Most likely you can not do anything else than wait for software fixes or Vista patches.

I have the same ActiveMovie window problem only with PowerDVD 5.0, I tried all the fixes listed here and the still have the problem
Also Windows Media Player 11 crashes when I try to use it to watch a DVD, WMP10 did the same thing and the problem started at the same time.
Media Player Classic plays DVDs without a problem and I also have no problems with DVD Shrink or MPEG Streamclip
I think the problem started around the time I installed DivX but it was several months ago now and I un-installed it after the problem started.
I have updated to DirectX 9 and WMP11
I have also tried un-installing and re-installing codecs, I have changed the settings in WMP, FFDShow and MPC as per the thread also searched for (but didn't find) divxdec.ax
I tried contacting cyberlink support (who make power DVD) they said:
| Quote: | | We request you to please remove this Active Movie software which is the cause of the situation. |
So I don't think I'll bother asking them for help again....
You guys seem to have a handle on the problem and the thought of a re-format is more than I could bare! - Especially as all my disks are 7,000miles away in London while I'm in Asia for the next 6 months or so
Any help gratefully recived

| Just to add, I read another thread that updating to PowerDVD 7 may fix the problem but as it didn't with WMP10 and you have to pay for the upgrade I really don't want to do this if I can avoid it!

Looks like that divx-installation messed up your system and only proper way to fix it is to re-install windows (install on top). Sad but true, those crap installers leave such a mess as you have seen.
WMP11 is bad choice - it creates more problems.

I had a horrible feeling that was going to be the answer....
Still I guess it will also tidy up a lot of other things that have got a bit buggy over the last year or two - probably high time for it.
May I ask one other (off topic) question? Sorry but JJ, you seem like someone who would know
Do I need to get my original system disks flown over to re-install (on top) or can I use someone else's XP Pro SP2 disk and keep my original OEM windows serial number? All my system drivers are on the manufacturer's website.
Thanks for the help and sorry for the off topic question
Adam

Fixed at last!!!
I don't know why I never thought of it before - I'd set a 'windows restore' point prior to that dark day when I installed DivX (for a completely unrelated reason) - I can't believe I've been tearing my hair out over this for nearly 3 months when there was such obvious fix... I am an idiot!!
And I've also got WMP10 back instead of 11

Great!
I would have suggested restore but I though that you had already tried it ..
And answer to your other question - if it is same version of XP, (pro/home) and same language then usually you can use it.
Only exceptions are some brands (like Fujitsu-Siemens) that have their own version of XP and it is not compatible with "normal" version.

| cavalier wrote: | Hello,
I know that my problem is slightly different than this forum topic, but effect is exactly the same - annoying ActiveMovie Window.
I tried to find some help on Pinnacle support page, but no one could help me, so I'm trying here...
I have exactly the same problem as above, but I bought PCTV Hybrid Stick USB(330e), which has a sticker "Vista Certified", so I thought it would work on my Vista Home Premium. I downloaded all needed software/drivers from support page and installed it. Then I plugged in the tuner and started searching for channels. It found as many as it could, but then I got this "Activemovie Window" in left top corner. So the tv doesn't appear in TVCenter window, but behind it and when I try to maximize the window, it doesn't maximize tv, but this empty TVcenter window, which is black. I'm really angry about it, because I replaced DazzleTV Mobile with PCTV Hybrid Stick, because it was supposed to work with Vista without any problems, but it works exactly same way as Dazzle and I had to spend twice more money than for Dazzle.
I tried to uninstall all codecs, but situation doesn't change at all.
My graphic card is NVidia GeForce Go 7600 (which was built for Vista).
In WinXP(on other computer) tuner works fine(no activemovie window) - tv appears where it should appear - in TVCenter window.
What can I do to make the tv appear in TVCenter window under Vista Home Premium??
PLEASE HELP!!!!! |
The attatchment shows how to sort this i had to attatch it because i cant post links

I have red all your post and i must say that none of the solutions are solving the root of the problem.
At first i thought that the drivers are the problem, reinstalled them, no change.
But i noticed that if making an image of the dvd and loadin the image into Media Player classic, it would display correctly, but if you want to be able to load external subs, you have to use Haali device for output.
This problem has not been for ever on my sistem. Just appeared from some time now, and i cannot figure out the reason. I tried updating directx, did not work.
Update:
I discovered after some browsing and watching the modules loaded by the player with sysinternal's "Process Explorer", and removed a codec that cae with nero: regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeVideo.ax". After this, mplayerc was crashing because of mpeg2decfilter.ax from the CCCP Codec Pack when using Haali output, but working fine with the rest of them.
