I'm trying to get a video to start at a specific point from first play. That is, instead of starting at the beginning, I want it to start at chapter 2.

Reason - I backup my tweaked ifo's just in case the original falls over. This way I can just drop the already tweaked ifo file over the original one - saves having to do all the work again. However, if I blank (hide a block of video) this doesn't work. Seems the vobs have to be re-written.

So what I thought would work, was to make the first play start directly at chapter 2 (this still leaves the original vobs the same but the ifo is tweaked to make the jump). Can I do this? Everytime I play with something I get the "RED" error thingee (Which I don't know how to fix usually). It seems the"Cut to here" function blanks the video segment, so this isn't what I want - even though the end result is the same.

I hope I've explained the situation enough to get to what I'm trying to achieve. Thx in advance for your help

Why do you want to avoid vobs being re-written? "Cut to here" should do the trick. But are you sure you want to start at Chapter 2? Doesn't chapter 1 contain part of the movie?

Anyways, to start at chapter 2, insert at line 1 the pre-command "Link Chapter 2" at the movie PGC. Or you can also link to a specific program or cell. Note that this is just a quick fix.

Here's the story of my tweaking.
1. Backup video to puter HDD.
2. Make tweaks and export.
3.Backup (Write) to server.

All equals a lot of work.

If the server copy ever fails (HDD failure?) and I need to restore it, then I have to go through this entire process again. By keeping a backup of the tweaked IFO, I can restore directly to the server from the original disc and just overwrite with the tweaked backup IFO.

Unfortunately, this process doesn't work if you hide(blank) a block as the vobs need re-exporting. Because of this I wanted to essentially skip the first chapter via some command so the block was still there so the vobs didn't have to be re-written. Hope this makes sense.

As for chapter one - it's a TV episode with a "Tonight on TVshowname" segment that IMO spoils the episode by showing segments of what's going to happen. (Not to be confused with a "Previously on TVSHowname" segment). I know this could be achieved by a chapter skip, but skipping over it automatically is the better option I thought and I also hoped it would help me learn a bit more with using this program.

Thx for this. I thought you could do this. The function wasn't in the places I looked. This worked perfectly. Thx again.

Another alternative is that you can save all your editing as a project. This way you can reload the project and export. Of course, the source DVD has to be in the original location that the project references because the project stores the full source path.

But you're right, storing tweaked IFOs is more safer.

I do that as well (keep the project files) and a readme file to say how I had everything foldered. But IFO backups seem the best. Would help if DVDRMP exported to ISO.
