Hi,

I have ConvertToXDvd (2.2.3.258) Software from VSO. Can anyone tell me how to merge/join AVI files using ConvertToXDvd. I know it states in the product description that it can merge up to 4 hours but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it.

I have movies that came with 2 AVI files, but after adding the 2 avi files in ConvertxToDvd to be merged and burned in a DVD, the DVD movies has 2 menus and 2 titles. I don't want that, I just want one video movie ?

Can someone resolve this issue.

Thanks,
Arvind

Basically you can't do what you want to do. At least NOT with ConvertXtoDVD. You CAN, however, do it very nicely with a freebie program called VIRTUALDUBMOD. You load in the first half, move the scrubber pointer to the end of the file, make a couple changes (offhand I can't recall them), Append the second half, press a couple buttons and it goes. Takes minutes and is flawless.

Download the program and if you need help let me know. My Virtualdubmod is on my other system and I don't have access to it right now. It's easy, painless and works like a champ.

My understanding is this will be done in the upcoming Ver. 3.

Hello,

If your movie comes as two .avi files and you want to merje/join them on the dvd you are creating, - just uncheck/deselct the Include Menu option.
This will result in one flowing movie.

Hope this helps

I have the same problem. The problem is that if i join the files using VirtualDub, then the resulting file has some serious A/V Sync problems (audio & video turn out COMPLETELY out of sync). I think this is probably due to the fact the first movie has different lengths for the video and audio tracks...how can i fix that?

Thanks for all the help. I shall definitely try the menu (unselect) option.

I'm a big fan of AviDemux for combining multiple AVI's. It will clean everything up with them sync-wise before it combines them. Amazing open source program. http://www.avidemux.org/

Enise....thanks for the hint about AVIDEMUX. I downloaded it yesterday, fooled around with it for a while and decided I liked it. Why is it that the freebie software is oftimes better than the stuff you pay for!! I dunno!!

Was able to remove an audio track from a movie that had 2. Worked like a champ.

Thanks again,

Adrian

MKVMerge (which comes with MKVExtract) is also nice and can merge multiple files into one and can also merge video files with the audio files you desire and even supports multiple streams! Even files with different frame rates can be joined.

Askuiper,

Glad to be of help.
Just another tip for you... Stick with AviDeMUX 2.3+ for now. The preview version of 2.4 seems to have A/V sync problems. It does for me, anyway. No one seems to be talking about it in their support forums though and so I'm wondering if it is just me. I've run many different in-sync files at it and all that get processed through 2.4 wind up out of sync and the same files fed into 2.3 are still in-sync.
I really think pre-processing files with ADM 2.3+ before giving them to ConvertXToDVD is a dynamite combination. I recommend it to everyone.

Thanks for the tip, Enise, I'm going to dload Avidemux RIGHT now!
thx!
To netranger: No, the two halfs of the movie play perfectly by themselves, after joining them is when the mess begins. Like I said, I suspect that this is because the first half has different lengths for the audio and video tracks, so, obviously, after joining, they come out totally out of sync.

Thanks for the tip Enise.

After years in the IT field, I tend to be a couple releases behind. It's much safer that way.

Well, if you start to feel a bit daring it appears they solved the problem with the Preview 2 build with a later release (3332). You can get it at http://www.razorbyte.com.au/avidemux/
The sync problem appeared to have been in the unpacking process and so if you had a file that was already unpacked or if you didn't ok the unpacking of a packed file, everything remained in sync. Use the unpack and the sync was about a second off. The new build fixes the unpack bug.
What I really like about this version is that you can go into Automation in Preferences and tell it to do all the pre-processing automatically and it will clean up the file in a way that ConvertXtoDVD just loves. If you do a merge of two files you'll have a hard time spotting where they joined. Very clean. I use it to pre-process all my files prior to ConvertX whether I do a join or not. Also, it's a pretty good file format converter as well. I only wish it was able to do batch processing without having to resort to a complicated scripting language.

BTW, I finally tried avidemux and it works like a charm.
Open part one, append the other and save. That's it. it automagically corrects all sync problems. no additional steps need to be taken.

AVIDEMUX rules!

thanks again fot the tip, enise.

PD: I had the entire james bond films collection, all movies split up in half, now i have them all each in one file, thx to avidemux.

bye!

hello, I just downloaded avidemux and appended two avi files into one but when I save them they are saved as an unrecognizable file type. I would like to save them as a single .avi file. how can I do that? Thank you
