I earlier had a problem which was fixed by switching back to DVD+R media. Suddenly, I find that while writing DVD+Rs, my Nero goes through the motions and takes about 16 minutes to burn a DVD at 4x and shows the burn process to be completed successfully. However, My Computer shows Freespace=0 bytes and Total bytes = 0 bytes. When I insert a blank DVD, My Computer shows the drive to be CD and shows freespace to be 0. But Nero's disc info shows the free space to be the correct 4.something GB. Please help. I have tested a number of blank DVDs from different new boxes but have the same problem. It goes through the process but shows zilch at the end of it all. I have checked and deleted all the references to GEARAspiWDM.sys and PxHelp20.sys but to no avail. I should mention that I am able to write and read CDs. Also, I am able to read DVDs which have been written earlier on this system itself. I should also mention that my hard disk free space had come down to less than 100 MB because of which windows restore had shut down. I have now freed up about 2 GB space on my hard disk and wonder if the low hard disk space caused some change in the settings which has made burnings DVDs impossible. Please help.

Look at the last lines of the log, it still has 2 filters in there pxhelp and the cdral one, the last one is tricky i think. Also you have installed the adaptec ASPI layer, this might cause problems. Have you tried updating Nero to 6.6? I hope any of these suggestions might work for you.

Dear Ulukai, thanks for your kind response. I too noticed the filters as I was posting the log, so it is possible that I have not deleted those from the Windows directory, but only from the registry. Will have a look as soon as I get to my notebook. Could you please expand on "adaptec ASPI layer"? If this is wrong, how do I get rid of it? Nero -- will I have to buy a new version? Ah, well, if that will solve the problem...

I have a Dell notebook with SONY DVD+RW DW-D56A DVD/CD
I had trouble burning DVDs years back and stopped using them
I could get by with CDs
My DVD drive even stopped reading the DVDs it had burnt long back
But it could play the store-bough pre-recorded DVDs
In between, I had a harddisk crash and got that changed.
The problem persisted
My computer showed dvd-rw drive e which changes to cd when a dvd is put in and it shows the dvd to be blank
DVD region not selected
I checked lower and upper filters. There was no upper filter and the lower filter was Pxhelp20
I downloaded the firmware rar file and changed it from pd57 to pfs3
I also downloaded from this site, the zipped files for "filters off" and "filters on" and also the "filters check"
I switched off filters, the problem persisted.
I switched on filters, and they became The Upper Filters are:
GEARAspiWDM
The Lower Filters are:
Pxhelp20
but then on rebooting, the dvd drive has disappeared and device manager shows a yellow mark against my SONY DVD+RW DW-D56A
Please suggest what I can do.
