Hi I just got dvd95 and tried burning a movie all worked fine but the burning speed was only 4X is there a way to increase to 12X?

What format of blank disc are you using? DVD+R, DVD-R?

The reason I ask is because I have had a similar thing happen to me. When I use DVD+R discs (brand seems to be irrelevent) I can choose from any speed I want up to 16x. I ordinarily use 12x without any problems. However, there were a few times where I had to use DVD-R discs (again, brand seems to be irrelevent) and the max speed available for me to select from the drop-down box was only 4x.

I have no explanation for why this is the case or if it happens to everyone everytime, but that has been my experience in the past, it sounds like the same thing that's happening to you right now.

My suggestion would be that if you are using DVD-R's to try switching to using DVD+R's as long as your player is compatible with them (most are these days) and see if you get higher speed burn options when you do. This has been my experience with virtually the same issue but sorry, I can't tell you the reason why. Maybe someone else here can give you a more technical reason why it happens or if they have had the same dilemma.

Good Luck.

HI thanks for the reply I am using verbatim -r dvd's next time i'll try the +r dvd's, although that does sound realy odd not to allow higher burning speeds with -r media, I have been backing up dvd's for years and never come accross this before.

dvd95copy will auto detect your media id code and set the burn speed for it based on your burner I would also recommend if you want to burn faster download copytodvd and install it and tick the box for use VSO burn engine.

its not free but worth a few bucks they have a free trial also http://www.vso-software.fr/products/copytodvd/copytodvd.php

by the way if you are using a laptop to burn with most laptops have burner firmware that will not allow any more than a 4X burn. Wink
