the image that 1 click creates is: (NOT .ISO)

Not .ISO? or is it NOT.ISO?
If it is .ISO then it can be mounted - most likely it can anyway, depending on what type of image it is.
Try to mount it with Alcohol, no harm if it is not correct.

Hi JJ...
It is not an '.ISO' image; 1 CLICK HAS CREATED a folder of: 'VOBs, BUPs & IFOs'. These will not mount in Alcohol but they DO play on 'power DVD' software!
Surprised

what next?

That is not image.
It is folder containing DVD structure.
Just play all of those with Power DVD to see if they are working.

...tried my Sony burner with same result "burn fail" cannot read media.

So didn't think it was the source or the burner having done these tests on both, so the next most likely culprit had to be the CRAP discs - right? I got some Verbs. MKM-010 (1.st class media) http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm.
