Hi,

I'm using version 3.5.3 to merge 2 projects and replace the default menu for a custom one. If 4:3 format is used everything is fine, but in wide format (16:9) the following happens: software players (PowerDVD7, WMP11) play fine but set top players (2 different players tested) place the button mask at wrong Y coordinates (X coord. is ok). 1st button seems off by twice the distance of 2nd button...

thanks in advance.

You need to change the aspect ratio to 16:9 and check either pan/scan or letterbox option in the Video pane. It's on the right window when you select the VTS item in the DVD Tree.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, but I've done that.
Just to make sure, I've imported 2 PAL/WIDE DVD's and merged them WITHOUT changing the default menu, only setting the 16:9 aspect ratio and pan/scan/letterbox options on both the "Video Title Set 3" and "Menus" under it (why doesn't the menu settings change when changing its parent?), with the same result.
It seems that, while the menu image aspect changes to 16:9, the button mask aspect remains in 4:3. Another strange thing is that "Video Title Set 3" (created by the merge) is set to NTSC, but the menu itself is PAL. Could this be the problem (NTSC=720x480, PAL=720x576)?

Best Regards,

You need to update to 3.6.2.

The video attributes in the Menus pertain to menu domain, while in Video Title Set 3 pertain to title domain.

Did you use 'Replace block' to replace with your PAL menu? This contains the button info that you created.

Are the 2 projects to be merged already PAL? I would think that the DvdReMake menu would be PAL as well. If it is NTSC, I think that's a bug. Another limitation in the Video attributes is that you cannot choose PAL over NTSC. Not sure if this is on purpose. But I hope the option can be enabled.

Well, for now, you can change the NTSC to PAL format with PgcEdit or IfoEdit after menu replacement.

Thanks for replying.

Both projects are PAL and the problem occurs even if the default menu is not replaced. Also tried the latest version of the application with same results.
I think this is a bug, don't know if anyone else is able to reproduce it...

I'll give a try with PgcEdit/IfoEdit.

Well, I tried IfoEdit and changed everything to PAL/WIDE with no results, but I'm no pro with IfoEdit...

Here's an image that illustrates the problem.
Images were taken from same DVD disc using PowerDVD 7 and a standalone player (well known brand).
This problem doesn't occur when using 4:3 aspect ratio menus.
It's just a detail, but I want it perfect...

There are many factors that could go wrong. In the Video pane, what option did you check for 16:9: letterbox or pan/scan? Are you watching on 4:3 TV? Make sure your display setting on standalone is correct.

What program did you use to author the menu with? Did you include the subpicture bitmap for letterbox or pan/scan, in addition to wide mode?

Read HERE on how to create 16:9 menu.

After reading the guide, it's clear to me that the standalone is using the 4:3 mask rather than the 16:9 mask (which doesn't exist). I then went to the standalone setup and changed de TV settings to 16:9 (I still have a 4:3 TV) and the menu worked fine, besides the stretched aspect.

The process described is rather complicated, so without a proper user-friendly tool to quickly build such menus (do you know such tool?), I'll stick to 4:3 menus until the guys from DimadSoft come up with an easy solution.

Thanks for all the support.

Well, I discovered a method of creating wide menus that requires only a text editor and a calculator! Here's how:

Quote:
1. Create a normal 4:3 menu and set menu video track attributes to 16:9
2. Replace menu with 16:9 still (the vob with your menu) [optional]
3. Export buttons
4. Edit the exported buttons file with notepad and Copy/Paste each button block and set:
    -> Group ID = 1 (Wide)
    -> Group ID = 2 (Letterbox)
    -> Group ID = 4 (Pan/Scan)
5. Set the new Rect for Letterbox or/and Pan/Scan using this formula:
    -> BH_LB = ROUND(BH_WD * 424 / 576)
    -> BY_LB = ROUND(BY_WD * 424 / 576) + 76
    Where:
    BH_LB = Button Height LetterBox
    BH_WD = Button Height Wide
    BY_LB = Button Y Pos LetterBox (must be multiple of 2?)
    BY_WD = Button Y Pos Wide
    576 = Maximum scan lines (PAL)
    424 = Scan lines used in LetterBox mode (PAL)
    76 = Height of each top/bottom black bar in Letterbox mode = (576 - 424) / 2

6. Import buttons
7. If required, Import/Edit Color Schemes and Color Table

Works for me at 100%!
