I have a question about what DVDRemake pro can do. This is probably already covered somewhere in the forums, but I am a total newb when it comes to this stuff, so please bear with me.

I managed, after much trial and error, to author two DVDs, each with three episodes. Both DVDs begin with a main menu( VMG menu?) linked to each episode.
Each episode has its own menu and chapter menu within its own vts .

I understand, from reading through some of the posts, about merging two DVDs, and even cutting parts of a DVD with DVDRemake. But I would like to know if I could use it to take an episode from one disk, and replace it with an episode from the second disk while keeping the replacement episode's menu(vts menu?) and chapter menu. in other words swap vts's( I think). Plus I would probably have to reedit the main( vmg?) menu in to reflect the change.

Any answers, tips, and or links would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You can replace the episode with another one by multi-select the number of blocks in Domain Content pane and Copy in disk 2 and multi-select the same number of blocks in disk 1 and Paste.

If the episode in disk 2 has more blocks than disk 1's, then in disk 1 create the missing remaining blocks in the Video Title Set #/Program Chains/Programs pane using 'Add program'.

If the episode in disk 2 has less blocks than disk 1's, then in disk 1 delete the extra blocks in Programs pane. You can do this before or after you Copy and Paste.

Alternatively, you can use the 'Bulk replace' function available by right-clicking on the VTS domain.

Thanks for the response Toaddub.

I do have one question.

As you suggested, I used the 'Add Program' command in the #/Program Chains/Programs pane to extend the number of blocks in disk 1 for both the vts program chain, and the vts menu pgc.

After using the 'Bulk replace' function to replace the episode(and its corresponding vts menu) in disk 1 with the episode from disk 2, I exported the dvd. The episode I replaced played well as did its corresponding vts menu.

However, the episode's chapter menus that I copied, which also happen to be two pages longer than the original chapter menus I replaced, cut off when I skip to the last two pages, and the dvd stops playing(crashes).

I added the extra pgcs in the vts menu tree, and I did add the extra chapters in the vts title map window prior to replacing the vts menu from disk 2, so I didnt get any errors. Do I also have to copy the menu's pre/post/cell commands from disk 2 to disk 1 for the chapter menus as well?

Both disk 1 and 2 have the same general layout(vmg menu connected to three vts's, each w/its own menus and episodes), so I dont think it would be a problem, but I am not sure.

thanks

You don't use 'Bulk replace' to replace menu pgcs, just the VTS Program Chains. Besides, this option is not available under Menus in dvd tree.

I thought you just want to replace the episodes from disk 2 and keep the menus from disk 1 intact. From what you described, you want to copy the menus from disk 2 and put over to disk 1. Why? Might as well keep disk 2 and not do anything. What are you trying to do really?

But if you insist, there are 2 ways to do this:

Method 1
You can copy the whole VTS from disk 2 and 'Add copied VTS' (available at DVD node) in disk 1. Fix the main menu to refer to this VTS. Delete the old VTS in disk 1. Fix the VMG Title to refer to the new added VTS. Modify anything that is still highlighted in red. No red does not mean everything's working, so you still have to double-check.

Method 2
1. Bulk replace with the new episode, overriding the original VTS in disk 1.
2. For the menus, copy the desired menu PGC in disk 2.
3. In disk 1, select the similar menu PGC (episode menu for episode menu, chapter menu for chapter menu)to be replaced, and 'Append copied PGC'.
4. In the same Programs pane, delete the disk 1's programs.
5. Right-click on the same menu PGC (dvd tree), and select 'Paste attributes'. Click on 'Select all' button and OK. This will replace all the menu's attributes (commands, buttons, track info, etc.)
6. Do any other minor adjustments where necessary.

From either method, test in the debugger. Once satisfied, export and test in software player again before burning.
