| Hi all. I have a sony vaio a190 laptop with a DW-U55A dvd burner making a mechanical clicking sound. totally inop. i was thinking of getting a replacement drive and they are a lot of money (like $400)... so i thought maybe i could find a "similar" dvd burner cobo type drive that would fit and work. I found a ton of drives and got some advice from sellers saying i could use DW-D56A or others... Panasonic UJ-832s for example. Any thoughts how i can determine fit and compatability? i mean i know that if i wanted to do the =same in a desktop, as long as it was IDE it would work... i have been told "laptops are different"... help! these things seem to be EIDE ATAPI connected... is it really a standard? is it just a matter of fit and faceplate? is it manufacturer hype trying to sell me a $400 drive? any advice would be appreciated. i am sure i am not the only one hitting this wall... |
