First of all I am a somewhat of an idiot when it come to DVD structures and commands. The extent of my back up experience is with 1-click apps. What I am trying to do is back up my Star Trek TOS episodes. They came out before the advent of dual layer technology, so only two episodes were put on each disk. All subsequent Star Trek Series have 4 episodes per disk. I would like to combine two disks, yielding 4 episodes per disk, while retaining the menus from the original disks. What I thought I could do is author a new main menu that would reference the former main menus of the original disks, and insert this newly authored menu without completely reauthoring. In essence, the original main menus of the combined disks would become like chapter or sub menus. I have seen the guide for combining two disks so I think I shouldn't have a problem with combining the two disks. What I need help with is what software I should use to create the new main menu, inserting the newly created main menu, and changes all the relevant commands. I hope I have made sense. If so, can anyone help me with the necessary steps? Thanks Much LLLLvis

Hi and welcome to the forums Smile I'm workin on a broken down guide HERE as it's possible to do it all with DRM. I've uploaded so much of it and the nitty gritty bit of adding the menu and modifying commands is yet to come as I haven't created the guides yet but I'm on it Wink the only thing you need to create with another program is make a new Title menu so that you can replace the block with DRM Smile there isn't a program that will automatically update the commands when merging so it will need some user input but once people get the basics they will be able to do it manually. All it takes is a little basic knowledge, effort and usertime Smile

MackemX, Thanks for the quick reply. I look forward to the guide. I think that more and more people will be interested in this method with the advent of Blueray dvd burners. If you look on Doom9, Panasonic has justed announced the first dual layer blueray dvd recorder. According to the article each disk will hold up to 50 gb. The problem facing archiving your dvds will no longer be stripping and shrinking your collection, but arranging several disks of your dvd collection on a 50 gb disk, so this method will come in handy in the not so distant future. Thanks Again, LLLLvis

MackemX, I'm not sure, but I think BluRay is just a new optical storage standard, so I think you will be able to put a standard DVD Structure on it . I would think that any new BluRay dvd player would be backward compatible, so there shouldn't be a problem reading the current standard. I know there is some controvery when it comes to the upcoming HD-DVD, whether it will be BluRay using the current MPEG-2 compression or the current "Red Laser" with MPEG-4 compression. Microsoft is lobbying pretty hard for the latter, so WMV-9 will be used. I personally would prefer the BluRay option, but we'll have to wait and see. I guess the short answer to your question would be, yes I think that BluRay will accommodate the current standard, and according to the article I read it will hold up to 50 gb which roughly translates to 10 DVD's on one disk. Thank Again for the Help, LLLLvis
