Hello, Doing reasearch here, I am a pro photographer and I need to update my DVD burner. Is there a bar none, good as it gets burner, money is not a factor? The important thing for me is high quality as the DVD'S are for archives. From what I have seen, the best media is a gold plated disk but at $5 a disk, a tad on the expensive side. I have opted for the TY brand. Just the burner to find, speed is secondaty to quality. A second option I am looking at is to simply use hard drives, when full unplug and store. At a 1000gig's of archives per year, a hard drive option using Seagate 250's would be about $450. Not much can happen to a drive in a safe, can it? A penney for your thoughts. Thanks Chris Montreal |

Hi Chris and welcome to our forums Nothing is perfect as they all can have issues. If a dvd writer is the way you want to go then TY media such work well with just about any writer if burnt at 4x. Hardrive wise, I have good experience with seagate and maxtor, although as with anything man made - you will get friday evening batches ( or the odd badly built one! ). I think the hardrive option is the best for long term backups myself. I hope this helps you. |

| [quote="SirQUK"]Hi Chris and welcome to our forums Nothing is perfect as they all can have issues. ... Thanks, even with the hard drive option, I still need to replace my buner. I have been seeing good things about Plextor, they are also about 20% more than say Sony. When you pay extra for a Seagate 10K drive, and 95% of servers run on SCSI well that says a lot. About the same with burners, or are they +/- the same? Any have longer warrenties (a good sign) Cheers Chris Montreal |
