|
|
| My new toshiba notebook came with sonic record now and I have always with my 3 yr old toshiba notebook used my external BenQ burner 162I which has the Book Management exe. that allows me to burn my R+ media in DVD ROM when it is set and this is what I have always done. I use the programs 1 click dvd copy, slysofts Clone DVD and Any DVD when required. I was wondering if there is a setting on Sonic Record Now as there is in Nero where you can set the program to burn in DVD ROM. I was thinking about installing Nero 7 Ultra Edition as I can get it from work, however I was told by Toshiba that Sonic Record Now sometimes does not allow Nero to work properly as Sonic is a Roxio product toshiba said and there can be problems. Also I have read that this Ultra 7 is a very large program??? And that it has some bugs??? I can't simply uninstall Sonic Record Now which I did initially a few weeks ago and our office tech had to go through the exercise of Ghosting my new notebook and uninstalling my work programs and using the restore disc that came with the notebook as Sonic is required when trying to resolve any issues that you may encounter with your unit. So that is why I am asking this question. I look forward to responses, thankyou. |

| I don't know if Sonic Record Now has an auto-bitsetting option, but why is it required to be installed? It's just a CD/DVD burning software. You can use other alternative burning software, like Imgburn for DVD and Burrrn for audio CDs - all are FREE. Nero Ultra 7 download file is quite large and has a lot of utilities that you might not need. I don't know if it will conflict with Sonic if you have it installed. If you install it, do not install InCD (part of Nero package) as it will likely cause problems. IMO, there are always bugs no matter what version. I'll stick with 6.6.0.18 as it seems stable. |

I have only wanted "book management" Benq exe. that I used with my 162I External burner in order to burn R+ in DVD ROM all of the time. Now I have a Sony drx 810 UL and won't of course being using the BenQ exe. for the DVD ROM burning onto R+ and was wondering then what I would do as I have never had a coaster with any of my dvd's with my Benq and want the same results with my Sony burner. Any comments, if that makes my concerns a little more clear? Thx, any help would be appreciated!!!!>>>me and my knowledge of burning, but I am learning and am thankful for forums!! |

| Since the Sony DRX-810UL is a rebadged BenQ DW1640, I suppose you could use the booktype BenQ exe to auto-bitset it before burning. Have you tried this yet? The latest firmware for this burner is 2.0e if you have not updated: http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/drx810uldwn.htm. Check the media compatibility list for this burner. Imgburn has an auto-bitsetting tool for the BenQ (and other burners) that you can try to see if it works. |

| Thx for the reply re the Benq 1640 i will likely try to d/l the book management for that model and see if it works. I will have to google Imgburn as I am not familiar with that, is it a burning software or a tool? Likely a burning software i suspect; but as you can see that I am a Noob to all of this and so i am trying to google and read all that is available in forums like these where experienced users are an excellent source of help, which is greatly appreciated. Thankyou once again. i just d/l I believe the name of the program was VSO inspector so that I can get a better understanding of my media and burner capabilities, I see though that you have to purchase to be able to get more information about compatibilties so I will have to look into that before i decide whether I should do that or not. usually if i get a quality R+ media and it works then I stick with it as I like the Book Management feature. Sony support said to use their R+ media or Verbatim, TDK as they have been factory tested and not to use Maxell R+ as sometimes there is a dye problem incompatability? |

| I have the link for Imgburn (blue letters) in my first post. It can burn CD/DVD, not Audio CD though. Very reliable burning software. If you burn DL DVD, only use this software and Verbatim DVD+R DL as it's the most reliable. DVD Identifier also identifies the Media ID (MID) of your DVD. Download the Manufacturer Database file as well. Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are top of the line media. You can go no wrong with them. TDK is often MID: CMC MAG which is average media. Some burners like it, some don't. Check out Newegg, Rima, and shop4tech, for these DVDs. They usually have good deals, sometimes on sale. |
