Could I somehow clear a Bad Block form a CyberDive CB511D Combo CDRW/DVD ? Maybe I put the drive jumper on the wrong pins for a few weeks when I was learning to use my computer and maybe I fiddled about with too many softwares the wrong way , I really don't remember , but now CB511D has a BadBlock . The drive can still do everything it is supposed to do . It's not especially important but if there is a fix for it I would love to try it . The first instance of this message would have been 2 years ago and occasionally Windows sees fit to give it to me again , like 9 months after the first Bad Block message .

As far as I know drives don't come with a bad block, media does. The drive could have something wrong with the laser though. The bad block.. should dissapear if you throw in another dvd or cd. If not... the laser might be on the fritz.

excellent - I have wanted to hear that for a very long time . Thankyou very much . I have thought for 2 1/2 years the drive had a bad block . I thought the Bad Block had come about through using Mount Rainier in the drive where MtRainier takes up some of the drives buffer and that uninstalling MtRainier or rather uninstalling InCD that uses MtRainier had not returned the buffer to it's original size from the 1.536MB's MtRainier sets or uses or , doh . Some time later I reinstalled then uninstalled InCD and the buffer returned to it's former 2MB . Windows gave an Error message - The drive has a bad block and the message appeared in the error log . Windows also said to update the media at some time after then . I think I had tried cd's max X8 writing in InCD using MtRainier at x10 speed or something similar , lol Thanks very much for your input .
