Hi CDR-Zone, I'm looking for a drive that combines LightScribe technology and DVD-RAM format (read/write). This drive will especially have to write data and video DVD, not game or audio backups. After my research, I can't say I've really got the choice : - TSST- Samsung SH-162L : http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=285&page=Intro - Lite-On SHM 165H6S : http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=284&page=Intro - LG GSA 4166B (or H20L?) : http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/262 I'm disapointed and surprised that BenQ does not propose such a drive. looking at the PI/PO scans whith the Samsung it's not a very good choice. The LG seems to be a very good drive but doesn't support PI/PO scan. The Lite-On is not a bad drive and support quality scans, it seems less accurate than a BenQ 1640 for scanning. My questions : - I wonder If it is worth to buy the Lite-On that shows worse writing quality instead of the LG because of quality scans possibility. - Does anyone know the real difference between the GSA-4166B and the GSA-H20L ? - Did I miss a drive that conbines Lghtscribe and DVD-RAM ? (There is the HP 840i too but I read it was based on the LG) Thanks |

You could try the Pionnerr 111L too This has labelflash and DVD RAM ability but no lightscribe. Out of all the drives you mention I would probarly go with the LG H20L as I have heard some good things about it. Diff between that and the 4166B is the fact thats its newer and seems to be burning slightly better. The Lite-On SHM 165H6S should be a decent all round drive and its scanning ability is not too bad at all. They are developing a new scanning utility for it which does jitter/ta as well. I don't have any experiance at all of the Samsung. |

| Hi SirQUK, Pioneer DVR-111L is a possibility with LabelFlash but media are expensive and I only found labelflash media made by FujiFilm. Do other brands make labelflash media ? Wich ones ? Even if I know that Labelflash has a better visual result, I don't really like the blue color of the media. But I must admit that Disc T@2 is interesseting too. (BenQ propose a drive DVD-RAM and Labelflash, I guess) As the lite-on is not easy to find for me, for the moment, the LG H20L is the one I'll buy if I don't find a better drive. |

At the moment only fuji are doing labelflash although you can expect another compamy to do so soon ( I cant say any more than that ). I actually prefer LS front myself but I do like the Disc T@2 feature Theres not a lot in it between the 3 drives. The LG H20L should be a good drive on good media. The Pioneer does sem to handle cheaper media better than most though. |

If members are interested (by LS or Labelflash), there's an article published on february that compares them on Tom's hardware : here | Quote: | | The LG H20L should be a good drive on good media. | Yes, I think my choice might be the LG GSA-H20L, but 4166B scans in cdfreaks review are really excellent on most tested medias. Reading cdfreaks, I found two reviews of H20L drive, http://cdr.cz/a/17207 http://cdrlab.pl/article_strona_3099_1.html Compared to the 4166B, scans are pretty good too but seem bad on some DVD+RW. Now that this question is almost solved, which reliable LS media do you use for labelling ? |
