Sad Help I seem to find lots of people complaining about the above optical drive. Myine worked fine until this month. It now only reads discs occasionally, some time it does not even recognise that a disc has been inserted. Sometimes it allows me to write file via nero 7, but when checked the disc is blank (verifed on another machine). I have run the nero tools which state some system ASAPIs are missing but does not state which ones. I have tried removing the drivers and re-installing the hardwrae but this does not seem to do anything either. Is this a software problem or do I need to buy a new DVD writer and if so does anybody know where I can get a compatible one to fit my laptop as I dont see this particular model listed anywhere now, so prseume it has been discontinued. Help would be much appreciated.

Hi mark and welcome to our forums When issues like this occur it can be troublesome to find the problem but heres a few steps to try and remove some issues 1. provide your nero log of last 3 or 4 burns ( else it gets huge ) This can tell us some system settings etc. 2. Check for firmware upgrade 3. Unistall all burning software and disable windows XP burning engine and see if the unreadable discs are now readable ( this includes InCD and any virtual drives ) - unreadable discs could be down to bad burns earlier if recordable media is poor - what brand are you using? Once a log is provided the troubleshooting can begin! Smile
