Hi, I made a backup of Saw, but when I put it in my standalone player (jvc) it takes 30 seconds or more before the menu appears. It goes faster with software players. I didn't have this problem before. I'm using Dvd Remake 3.1.4. I hide some buttons in the menus and hide some entire blocks. I attached the original and remake ifo files in this post. thanks in advance! Josh

You cannot compare the speed of standalones with software players. Of course, the software players are always faster. How fast your DVD is accessed is dependent on how fast your standalone. Some will be faster than others. Guessing here, it looks like you hid the logo and it goes through 5 different previews in each vts before going to the main menu. That's why it takes long as the laser moves back and forth. So when you hide blocks, did you enable Auto Bypass in the Options menu? This will help speed up a bit.

Thanks toaddub! Well, I know that software players are faster than standalone players, but here it took pretty long for the standalone to start playing. And as you said, the laser goes indeed back and forth many times. Maybe this is the first DVD I back up where it has that many trailers before the menu.... I will check tonight if I enabled Auto Bypass and let you know. Wink

Even if you use auto-bypass, it can be slow if it does VMG/VTS changes. Then you need to optimise your firstplay, by eliminating these changes.

Well, AutoBypass is always enabled here. Mirx, optimising firstplay ... is that only in the Pro version? I'm using DRM 3.1.4. How can I do that and what does it mean? Wink

Which is why I have made many requests for a "set first play" feature

http://www.dimadsoft.com/other/mirx/first_play.zip Don't really know if you need pro for this or not, but my guess would be that you do need it.

Sorry for late reply, somehow I cannot access the site yesterday. @josh, to skip all these junks and jump to the main menu right away, there's only one line you need to modify: On VTS1, Menus en, PGC 3, change line 4, "Jump VMG PGC 2" to "Jump VMG PGC 22".

Thanks all for your support guys! I just upgraded to DRM Pro! Smile toaddub, I owe you one. I did exactly what you said, that means, changing only one frikkin number "PGC 22" and the DVD starts immediately now! Now I have two more questions for you experts: 1. What is the logic behind toaddub's solution? How can I change this myself the next time I have a DVD with 20 previews? 2. What's the best site for learning about DVD structure? I'm a total rookie, but want to use DRM Pro to the fullest in the end. Again, thankx all! J.

It's magic. Smile j/k..... It's called tracing. Start from First Play, then trace to the main menu, making note of register changes and jump locations. Make a note of the first jump, in your case to the logo, and the last jump to the main menu, and then reroute the first jump to the last jump, adding any register changes if it is necessary. Details: First jump is at vts 1, menu pgc 3. vmgpgc 2 is the branching condition. Last jump is at vts 10, pgc 2 (preview). Do you see how I did it now? Since this dvd's navigation flow is very similar to other dvds I've encountered, I can guess how it works so I don't have to trace line by line. You'll get better at it when you do more.

Start at the manual, learning the basic structure, and read the appendix section. Know your math, especially when it comes to bit-wise operation. Calculator will help. Another good reading is at dvd-replica site. You may need to read a few times before you understand. PgcEdit's trace function is another good way to learn as well. Once you're comfortable, you can start deleting stuff b/c by then, you'll know how to reroute.

Hey toaddub buddy! I just traced my first DVD by myself and changed successfully one value (Skeleton Key) to make it start faster. Just as you did. Feels so good. Very Happy PgcEdit is a nice little useful tool to trace. And DVDRM does the rest. Wink
