I bought this NEC DVD burner and Bytecc External enclosure and connected to my Compaq Presario 1500 on Win2k. When I connect sometimes it detects the burner sometimes it does not and when it detects and when I try to write the CPU shoots to 100% and over and the system crashes. Most of the time the system does not detect. I see the usb mass storage device listed when I click the USB icon and not the NEC Drive. I see the list shown in the picture when I expand my Device Manager. Any suggestions to rectify this will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi danjayapaul well it seems that the external enclosure is having issues in w2k for sure. Is there any reason why you do not want the writer inside your PC? Doing this could help find if the writer or external closure is the issue for sure. Quite often you can updated drivers for your enclosure on the makers website. Sometimes updating windows can help resolve the issue. I have had some external enclosures that just wouldnt work fine on my setup where others would without issue at all Evil or Very Mad I would recommend trying your writer inside your pc unless you have a laptop of course!

Quick thought I wonder if right clicking on your nec enhanced controller and trying to install windows standard drivers could help here?
