| Hi all I am having a problem with a batch of Sony cd-r. Whenever I have tried to write a disc I get a write protection error and both burning programmes I have tried are reading the disc as being cd-rw. I have tried a scratched old cd-rw I found down the back of the couch and that worked fine so I am assuming the writer itself is ok. I am very surprised as I have been using Sony discs for a while and never had a problem. |

Hi Green Glover and welcome to our forums. your question is a bit vague. Are you able to tell us what writer and firmware version you are using? Quite often updated firmware can help with media support and Sony media should be well supported with most writing devices. We could also do with knowing what software and version numbers of said software you have tried with. All this can help us help you better |

Hi Sir Apologies for the vaugeness The writer is a Sony CRX160E , I'm not sure what you mean by firmware. The 2 programmes I have tried are Roxio Easy CD creator 5 and Winoncd 3.6, neither are cutting edge I know, but I have never really had any problems before. Am I being naive in assuming that Sony never produce a dodgy batch of discs ? Regards |

| Sony can produce bad batches but I would still expect to start writing. The firmware is what tell sthe writer how best to writer media and quite often updating your firmware really does help compatibility with different types of media. The Sony CRX160E seems to be one of those drives that hasn't recieved a firmware update. Last known firmware version is 1.0g. I would suggest a quick email to Sony outlying the issue you are recieving may help but Sony are known for taking a long time to reply. have you tried recording at a lower speed to see if this helps. Other things you can try are disabling antivirus software whilsat burning or trying a different burning software as your versions are old. |
