The new subtitling from filename is nice, but most of the info I'd like to include is held in tags in the files. Could a future release include tag information, or perhaps import it from something like a spreadsheet or flat text file, please? Ian G.

Hi, I do not understand really what you would like to see in future version of PhotoDVD. From what I understand you know that you can now add your personal subtitles to the slideshow. You also know that you can add the source name as a track of subtitles too? or is that what you want to have add (but actually already exisits)? Go to options then settings, then subtitles and check or uncheck "Add a subtitle channel from filename". What is tag information? Is its original format in a spreadsheet? I do not get it. Isn't this the same thing as the filename or different? thanks for more information claire

Thanks for the response - it's nice to know that user requests are taken seriously! In much the same way that you can store information like Album, Song Title, Artist etc. in an mp3 file (in the tags), you can store information like People, Places and Events in jpgs. The standard is called IPTC, though I don't know if all photo management apps use it. The point is that once a file has been tagged the information stays with it - the subtitle text is part of the file and you only need to key it in once. The way I'd see this working would be to use a syntax in the subtitle which substituted tag information in a text string e.g."<people>, <event> in <place>" could be "Ian, Eclipse '99 in Paris" for image 1, "Chris & Peter, Skiing 2005 in Valmorel" and so on. Not all apps use IPTC, and I'm not sure that those that do use it consistently. For that situation, the onus is on the user to export the tag info into an agreed format such as csv or a flat text file and have PhotoDVD get its subtitle text from the file. hth Ian G.

I should have mentioned XMP as another tagging standard. I don't know if it's going to replace IPTC, live along side it or just go away, but it's out there. Ian G.
