How To Update Your Firmware, Through DVD Decrypter or Manually Make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner. Firmware upgrades can broaden a drive's support for different media types. Unfortunately, the development of DVD Decrypter has ended. Checking firmware updates in DVD Decrypter ( Sometimes this does not always return search results properly due to the embedded information in the DVD recorder/drive. If it doesn't return any, or the wrong information. Scroll down to learn how to search for it manually on: http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php ) : Open up DVD Decrypter. In the "Source" box, where you select which drive you want as the source, right click in that box. The last option is "Check For Firmware Updates..." . Click that and a box will come up stating that you need to be connected to the internet, and at the bottom it will give your current firmware version you have installed. Click "OK" and it will open up a window to the rpc1.org website with your firmware. ( Screen Shot Below: ) Or open up DVD Decrypter. Click "Tools", then click "Drive", then click "Check For Firmware Updates..." . (Screen Shot Below: ) Searching Manually: Open up your web browser. Go to: http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php (Screen Shot Below) On the top left hand side, click "Download Search". (Screen Shot Below) After clicking "Download Search", a new page will load with "Search the download database:" box in the middle. In the box, first type the brand and model # of your DVD burner/writer. ( ie. Sony DRU-510A ) If that doesn't return the exact results you are looking for, try narrowing/modifying your search words. ( ie. DRU-510A instead of Sony DRU-510A ) ( Screen Shot Below) or After you click the "Search" button, your page should look similar to this. (Screen Shot Below) You want to look at at where it says "Original Firmwares". It will list from oldest to newest versions. (In some type of chronological order) Usually you can immediately tell the most recent/latest firmware version as it will have "New" flashing out beside it. (Screen Shot Below) Just click the number for that firmware version, and save it to your hard drive. Your done. Installing your firmware: 1. Don't run any other programs at the same time 2. Don't have any disc in your burner at the same time 3. Restart your PC after you have flashed it.

Very nice tutorial thankyou jmet. I will add one more thing what is an excellent step by step guide to updating your firmware. Please make sure you check your DMA settings after doing any firmware upgrade to make sure you are not stuck in PIO or multi word DMA modes which will slow your system down drastically.
