I've been trying to convert a set of VOB files from a double layer DVD now for a week trying different methods and no matter what I do, when ConvertX reaches the spot in the original VOB files where the layer changes the rest of the video is jumpy and stutters. (My main reason in all of this is to convert PAL to NTSC) I've ripped the VOB set to my hard drive as both a VOB set and as one big VOB file. Both of those attempts resulting with the same result. I've used TMPGEnc to make the VOBs into an MPEG file and then used ConvertX with the same results. I then used TMGEnc DVD author to make a completely new set of VOB files then had ConvertX try to convert those. . . same thing. As soon as it reaches that point in the movie the final converted product is jumpy. Everything up to that point is perfect. Here's the log file of my last attempt. I'm guessing it has something to do with the warning that 2 frames were duplicated. This attempt was using the brand new VOB set created by TMPGEnc DVD Author: 6/2/2006 9:12:41 AM info ********** Report session closed *********** 6/2/2006 9:12:23 AM info --------------Encoding end-------------- 6/2/2006 8:23:36 AM info Conversion completed in 04:21:45 6/2/2006 8:23:32 AM warning 2 frames duplicated 6/2/2006 6:39:01 AM info ENGINE: rc buffer underflow 6/2/2006 6:38:58 AM info ENGINE: rc buffer underflow 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Stream #1 Sync. delay : 0.00 ms 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Stream #0 Sync. delay : 0.00 ms 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Output Stream#1 - Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5:1, 448 kb/s (Copy) 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Output Stream#0 - Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 720x480, q=1-31, 8052 kb/s 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Video Stream #0 Pulldown : 25.000 -> 29.97 Fps 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Video source original frame rate: 25.00 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info NTSC 29.97 FPS output format set by user 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Widescreen (16:9) set automatically 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Video bitrate 0/8052/8052 Kbps (min/avg/max) 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Converting "C:\Lost Highway\Volume 1\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB" 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info ----------------Title #1---------------- 6/2/2006 4:01:48 AM info Project size 7.91 Gb. Hi there,
Quote:
I've ripped the VOB set to my hard drive
What did you use to RIP it ? Does the .vob play on your PC with PowerDVD or WinDVD etc... ? Wondering if the .VOB is on your PC but still has some kind if protection when it reaches this .VOB file. I use DVD Decrypter and Slysoft AnyDVD so most stuff 95% and more I guess get's properly ripped. v2.0.12.126c is available ! http://download.vso-software.fr/vsoConvertXtoDVD2_setup.exe I never burn above 4x and use Taiyo Yuden media, to prevent playback issues. My 2 cents...

Yes - first check that converted file play ok on computer. If not, check original. If original is ok but converted not; try again with current version.

hey thanks for the feedback. I was using dvddecryptor to rip the DVD, and the ripped files on my hard drive play fine. . . here's a weird thing that happened. if you're not familiar with TMPGEnc's products they can read a set of VOBs then make them into one MPEG2 file with the AC3 sound. Anyway, when I did this with the DVD's VOBs, it split the output into two files right at the layer change. there's just something within the file that is fouling stuff up. . . although this last paragraph leads me to what I finally did to solve the problem. so if anyone else has this problem you can do this if you have the software. . . 1. I ripped the DVD to my hardrive with DVDdecryptor 2. used TMPGEnc DVD author to build a MPEG file from the VOB set. (in my case stated above it ended up being two MPEG files which actually made the next step easier) 3. I then used TMPGEnc DVD author to make two completely new VOB sets out of the two sections. one for the first half of the movie and one from the scene where it would always get screwed up. (even if I didn't have two MPEGs you can easily set the beginning point and ending point down to the frame with TMPGEnc DVD author.) 4. I converted each of those VOB sets separately in Convert X and it did a perfect job going from PAL to NTSC. no jumping or stuttering. 5. then I fed the output of this back into TMPGEnc DVD author as NTSC files and made a complete DVD from the two sections. If you're wondering why I even did step three when I could've just stuck the two MPEG files into Convert X separately, it's because the DVD was anamorphic and the aspect ratio wasn't coming out right, but after using TMPGEnc it worked fine cause it made it standard widescreen. thanks for your help. and thanks for the update notice.

TMPGEnc should not be needed here. Just load first vob from each title (from where you saved those decypted vobs) and CXD will pick up the rest.
