Here is a short tutorial showing you how to convert iTunes protected M4P files to MP3 fast and easily using Protected Music Converter software. You can also use this tutorial to convert protected M4B or WMA files to MP3 as well. This converter supports unprotected WMA, OGG and WAV output formats too.

1. You need to download and install Protected Music Converter.

Installation procedure is very fast and easy, it means no unsigned 3rd party drivers installation, no weird sound system detection screens, just usual file copy procedure and that's it.

2. Open iTunes and select "Authorize Computer..." from the "Store" menu. Enter your username and password and press "Authorize" button.

Authorize Computer iTunes dialog

3. Run Protected Music Converter.

4. Add your M4P files to program's batch list by pressing "Add Files..." button:

Add your M4P files

5. Select M4P files you just added to batch list and set output folder where your converted MP3 files will be placed:

Select output folder for MP3 files

You can skip this step if you want to keep converted files in the same folder as your original M4P files.

6. Press "Start" button to begin conversion process:

Convert M4P to MP3

7. Wait for few minutes. That's it. You have just converted your M4P files to MP3.

Now, please go to download the free trial of Protected Music Converter here and enjoy your protected M4P, M4B, M4A, WMA, AA, AAC files to UNPROTECTED MP3, WMA, OGG, etc. files easily for your other portable devices and CD Players. Thanks.

It seems Not an easy task to find a working converter for Vista! Did a quick Google, and of course about 300 programs popped up on some suspicious sites.
But I really need to convert a few protected iTunes videos. I tested a couple of sites and detected MelodyCan converter. Their free trial is quite impressive and allows converting video and audio formats both protected and standard ones. The main requirement is the ability to play the original file in Windows Media Player (for WMV) or QuickTime Player (for M4V). Their URL is http://www.melodycan.com/
