hp DVD writer 940d problems

Hi,
I'm having trouble with a DVD writer I just purchased (the hp DVD 940d). I installed it, set it to the "master" jumper configuration (as the other DVD drive is the slave), and connected it as such. It seems to be able to begin the writing process, but it has an error at some point every time. I'm running a 3.2GHz Pentium with 1GB dual channel DDR RAM, well above the listed system requirements. I've tried updating the driver and it is current. Please help!

I can post the log file from one of the failures... are there serial numbers I need to remove first?

Is hp dvd writer 940d the same as hp dvd writer 940?

Unfortunately.. this is one of the errors I haven't seen much. It says Key hardware failure and communication failure... something is up with the writer and the communication to it. Maybe you wanna check the writer out under warranty or something.
