|
|
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and just put in a new DVD-RW drive, the Sony AW-G170A. However, it did not come with any cables, so I have it running off the spare connection that joins my CD-R drive to the PC. However, upon running PC to see if it worked, NEITHER drive will come up. I have no idea what to do, and Sony have no tech support for anything like this.
The drives will open/close but neither come up in My Computer or on the Hardware list or anything...help would be really appreciated, as I don't want to have wasted £24.99.
Thanks,
Ex |

Hi Exavier and welcome to out forums
First thing to do is switch off and disconect any optical drives and remove them from the pc.
Now check the back of the Sony DVD writer, there should be a colored jumper across two pins amonst a set of 4 rows of 2 pins. This is normally set to the master setting for a drive by default. As a master it will need to be the first device on your ide chain. Any other device on this cable must be placed second and set to the slave position.
So Sony first as master setting and any other optical drive set to slave setting should resolve your issue |
