I've searched for the answer to this problem and have gotten nowhere. First I had trouble with my Memorex 2.4x suddenly not working. Computer said it did not exist no matter what I did. I cleaned it, re-installed it, I did everything, and re-installed software. Finally replaced the cable...then it worked fine. But I went out and bought a second better one in the mean time. Another Memorex 16X DVD DBL Layer RW. I have liked the performance they give when they work! Now you would think I could install both of them. Well it just doesn't work that way. I have tried every combination possible. Jumpers swapping, cable swapping, HD master, DVD slave. and secondary IDE cable you name I did it! I started thinking I had a virus but not the case. I have a Soyo P4VTE 3ghz MB, 160 HD, 2 G Ram. The MB has (two) IDE Bus conn 1 & 2. I've connected it with the HD (master) and one DVD (slave) on Bus 1 and Bus two with DVD master. (AS THE BOOKLET STATED! ) Connected it as HD Master Bus 1, and DVD master & slave on Bus #2 again as the Booklet stated!! It works with either DVD as the master on Bus 2 but will not work when both installed together. I get the Atpai incompatible error on the second DVD. Any suggestions??? |

| Generally the best setup I would think is: HD on primary ide New memorex as secondary master and old memorex as secondary slave. I would also use the newest cable. If this still gives issues I would have to presume that the new drive is at fault as all worked well beforehand. I've seen this before and normally firmware updates have resolved the issues. I would install both drives seperately for now and individually update their firmware then try the configuration I mentioned. |

| Sounds like a nightmare! Have you got any IDE controller drivers installed or not? Device manager>>IDE Controler should show up what is being used. It may be a case of just using one but I would like to try and rule a few things out first. Feel free to shout at me but you did set the jumpers properly ( i had to ask! ) |

| I have Primary and Secondary channels. At boot the bios cann not read the second DVD. It looks for a CDROM and the indicates "not installed". what I am begining to think is the MB does not support two DVD's. But will support a DVD and a CDROM. |
