| Has anybody any comment on these discs which have a code AML 002? I do not see any mention of them in any reviews/quality classifications. A search on this forum gave no results. I have not tried them yet. A freind has pointed me to a lo-cost source of these discs (£10/50 i.e. 20p each), he has only recorded a few on a Sony DVD recorder and so far so good.

| They are from the AML factory and normally classed as budget discs. I wouldn't trust them for long term backup but short term they should be fine. I actually class them as landfil media here: http://www.cdr-zone.com/articles/recordable_dvd_quality_page_1.html Simply because they are not reliable batch to batch. Use at your own risk and remember, you get what you pay for with these.

| Many thanks for your reply SirQUK. why did I not spot these in your list!!?? Since posting I used ULead Studio 9 to make a compilation of the 6 episodes of a recent TV series minus titles and what happened last week, and used DVD Shrink to fit these onto a standard DVD and burnt these onto one of these discs which played OK on my PC read write drive but... It would not play on my freinds Sony or my DVD recorder or even the seperate read only drive I have in my PC! On examination in DVD Identifier it had not set booktype to DVD-ROM which my drive does on 2 other makes of DVD+R. Why is this?

| I would suggest rechecking that booktype has not been switched off and try again to see if compatiability helps or not. I have had some AML media that dvds did not want to play as errors where too high to even read..........i'm not saying every disc is bad, but I have had lots of bad luck with them.

| Hello again SirQUK and many thanks for paste info but turns out to be in this instance not necessary as having replaced glasses with bifocals rather than varifocals (old technology versus new technology? - see posts elewhere!) I can see what I need. Drive was set to bookmark +R's to DVD-ROM, so why was this recorded AML showing as bookmarked DVD+R?? This freebie S/W looks interesting and produces test results on the disc but having also seen similar results usually produced by you on other discs I am at a loss to understand what the results indicate. From a techie point of view none of the graphs have axes labelled or results ascribed per colour. I cannot find the helpfile and can only find the one for CD-R/RW's. If you have a link for a full DVD helpfile then please list. Many Thanks

| In Nero CD DVD Speed there is an option to show DVD+R by booktype rather than disc type ( File>>options View by booktype check box ). There is no recent helpfile that I have seen and on the website a really old one is available: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/CDSpeed_eng.chm Understanding the tests comes with experience but the main one i use in Nero CD DVD speed is the Create CD DVD test. I can sue this to show a graph of the recording time taken to burn a full disc. For liteon and benq drives ( amongst others ) it can also give an indication of potential errors on the disc during readback. For plextors I have to use other software as CD Speed does not support this option for Plextors.

I got another one of these discs and burnt it using DVDdecrypter it also shows like the first disc as booktype DVD+R whereas Nero CDSpeed shows that the drive should bitset to DVD-ROM? Any ideas

| Many thanks fo response SirQUK Unfortunately Dell a) do not understand what you are talking about, b) say it is a software problem and thus c) want to charge you £1 per minute to even try to explain to them what the problem is and d) I aint paying that money for probably a non answer! Give them their due Dell hardware support (clever lady in Bangalore India) were brilliant when I had a real hardware problem with my graphics card - got a next day delivery with 2 follow up calls to see if it was OK!! 10/!0 I am just about to burn the same file on a Verbatim +R to see whether as with previous burns (only 3!) on +R media (Verbatim and CMC) I get a DVD-ROM bookmark. Will report back later
