This has worked for me in the past: Right click on the reg file Choose properties Choose 'change' button Now select Registry editor and then apply the change Let me if it works for you |

| OK if that does not work try this:) Goto start>>Run type regedit now click file>>Import and choose your regfile I can't explain why double clicking doesnt work - maybe something has been installed that has interferred. |

I'm glad it worked ok this way. At least now you have a workable solution. You should also be able to right click the reg file and choose the merge option to add to the registry - can you see if this works as it is easier than opening reg editor if it works |

You could also try this to see if it fixes the file association for reg file with regeditor: Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition a. Right-click My Computer, and then click Open. b. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the File Types tab. c. In the Registered file types list, click Registration Entries, and then click Change. d. In the Programs list, click Registry Editor, and then click OK. Note If Registry Editor does not appear in the Programs list, follow these steps: 1. Click Browse, and then click My Computer in the Look in list. 2. Double-click Local Disk (C , and then double-click WINDOWS. 3. Click regedit.exe, and then click Open. 4. Click OK, and then click Close. |

Its now working ok,you pre empted my next question because reg editor dident show up in the open with menu. What i did in the end was this,I deleted the file association type, then i created a new association in the "new" window.I paired "reg"with"registation entries" This now works with the double click.Thankyou for your prompt help and thanks for breaking it down for me.I was given lots of advise from many people in other forums but YOURS was the only help that actually worked (ie the import)this in turn pointed me in a new direction and helped me to solve the problem again many thanks for the help and the speed of your replys. |

I have broken a few things in my time and hence I have a pretty good idea of how to fix those 'niggly' little things. I have busted a few O/S installs learning though |
