I'm not an expert like you guys but I FINALLY fixed that stupid window from popping up every time. Here's what I did after some one else suggested almost the same thing but one minor difference. Open Windows Media Player. Click on the arrow which leads to the drop down menu for "tools". go to Options then to Performance then Advanced. Under Video Accelerator uncheck "use video mixing renderer" Click OK and close. This solved the problem for me. Hope this works for all even though I'm not sure what else I turned off!

| Yes - just the same setting as was with FFDShow. So it is something to do with video overlay, and deselecting overlays from player used will de-activate that window!

| Just to let you know that I upgraded to version 1.99.23.66 today and the annoying window does not pop up. Finally I can convert batches of files together without having to stand guard to turn off the window. I'd like to thank all who contributed to this thread for their assistance in trying to help. Joe.

| FYI. Not to kick a dead horse, or aim for the flat cat on the highway, I too had this problem. I hate fixing people's computers cuz when you fix something that half works, and something else works differently afterward, they give you shit for it. Anyway, I digress. I was using powerdvd in conjunction with WMP10 to play dvd's and never had a problem. I am not using any of the other software mentioned for encoding and all that. I started having the issues after installing xvid, but I may have just forgotten I fiddled with the settings in WMP10. In either case, under the Video Acceleration tab I selected Use Overlays, which deselected "Use high quality mode." Unfortunately, I sorta liked the ActiveMovie window ONLY cuz when I was viewing streaming video or other vids on the web that had predefined sizes, I could resize the activemovie window all the way to fullscreen if I chose. I was only getting the active movie window on mySpace, MSN news, etc, not when I was trying to work on something seriously. Anyway. Just adding my 2cents for the next guy that stumbles upon this thread. Great help guys. Thank you.

Thank you all for your assistance. I had this stupid window pop up for some mpg's and not others and it drove me mad I tried the option indicated in another post and summarised below: 1. open Windows Media Player 2. go to "tools" 3. go to "options" 4. select the "performance" tab 5. select the "advanced" button 6. deselect "use video mixing renderer" and it worked like a charm. I even selected it back again and it still worked. This is the true power of the Internet; people helping other people that they have never met. Thanks to all of you again.

I've found the fix that works perfectlly for me. Verify you have the wmv9 codecs installed for Windows Media Player as well as DirectX 9C Then go to Media Player Classic options menu and select 'Output'. Select the boxes as in the picture. Good Luck

| On another computer, I had to remove Win Media Player 10 and reinstall it...then change Classic media player in the same way...except using VMR7 Renderless instead of VMR9 Renderless. Obviously, this is where you have to experiment with your system.

| Have to add to this: i reasently got involved whit some Web/Game movie files in .mpg format and they crashed Explorer at first and didint want to play at all, then they started making the ActiveMovie window i used Bsplayer... some old v. so i updated it and still nothing it still Gives the window and if i shut it down it crashes the player BUT i can play the files just normal whit my windows media Player and it realy cant be the codect becoz i havent installed any new ones lately and i have most of the odd ones for wieving the odd stuff >_>, so for me its the Files that are making thet ActiveMovie Window. Other than that i have no problems whit any video what so ever.

| i know this is an older topic. The problem & fix someone touched on above. The solution to be more specific, has more to do with the selection of "use high quality mode" under the hardware acceleration section. Leaving "use high quality mode" box unchecked, has seemed to remedy the problem for other users across the internet. You can still have your codec packs installed. This seems to have little to no effect on the annoying activemovie window problem, many users have experienced. Glad to see other people have been working together to solve this issue. -Cheers

here the solution, it should work for most of ya at least I hope...
let's find this file: divxdec.ax, it is in the windows/system32 folder.
start -> run -> write...
regsvr32 -u divxdec.ax (hit enter)
You're done! Believe it or not, if you're having that ActiveMovie Window popup you will have this file in the system32 folder, damn, I disabled the codec one after one to find who caused this issue.

| I followed one person's advice that worked to get rid of annoying activemovie window. It was to go to options in wmp. click on performance .then default the video accerleration, and that did work. activemovie window is gone, and my wmp is working correctly. MYKLE BRADLEY

Hello,
I know that my problem is slightly different than this forum topic, but effect is exactly the same - annoying ActiveMovie Window.
I tried to find some help on Pinnacle support page, but no one could help me, so I'm trying here...
I have exactly the same problem as above, but I bought PCTV Hybrid Stick USB(330e), which has a sticker "Vista Certified", so I thought it would work on my Vista Home Premium. I downloaded all needed software/drivers from support page and installed it. Then I plugged in the tuner and started searching for channels. It found as many as it could, but then I got this "Activemovie Window" in left top corner. So the tv doesn't appear in TVCenter window, but behind it and when I try to maximize the window, it doesn't maximize tv, but this empty TVcenter window, which is black. I'm really angry about it, because I replaced DazzleTV Mobile with PCTV Hybrid Stick, because it was supposed to work with Vista without any problems, but it works exactly same way as Dazzle and I had to spend twice more money than for Dazzle.
I tried to uninstall all codecs, but situation doesn't change at all.
My graphic card is NVidia GeForce Go 7600 (which was built for Vista).
In WinXP(on other computer) tuner works fine(no activemovie window) - tv appears where it should appear - in TVCenter window.
What can I do to make the tv appear in TVCenter window under Vista Home Premium??
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
