I have a BENQ DW1620. I had to reformat the HDD and reload Windows XP on my machine. It lists my BENQ as an ATAPI DVD DD 2x16x4x16 and it will not let me write to the drive. Windows XP classifies this drive as a DVD ROM. I even tried to remove the ATAPI device without rebooting and used the find new hardware wizard and it loaded the same drivers. Please remember that this is a fresh Windows XP load and formatted HDD. I guess I need a BENQ 1620 driver for windows XP but I can't find one. Can anyone help please or point me in the right direction? Embarassed

Hi Peasant and welcome to our forums. You should need a driver for XP for your benq 1620. Lets do a basic checklist. Is your BenQs jumper set to the same position ( master/slave) as the part of the IDE cable it is connected to. When you say fresh install, what software have you loaded if any. Have you upgraded to SP2? What are your ssytem specs ( via chipset/nvidia etc ) With more details we should be able to narrow this problem down and nail it!

SirUK, Thanks for helping me! The BenQ drive is a slave to my HDD. I have't made any hardware changes or jumper modifications before installing windows. I did load SP1 back on and I can now write to the drive but it's still listed as an ATAPI drive. I could've sworn that when I first put the drive in it actually showed up as a BenQ 1620. But I'm not going to complain too much because I'm burning again. Thanks again for your help.
