Ok, I admit I am a newb. And I was not sure as to where to post this but I am at my wits end (not a long journey I am afraid). I have used DivxtoDvd and it works great and so does CopytoDvd. I am trying to make a dvd that is playable in a regular dvd player though. Everything I try to convert then burn makes a folder with a bunch of files and one of them being a PowerDVD file. That is the playable one, but only on computer. I have a Sonic DVD also that I would like to make DVD's with custom menus and such to, but it says the file is incompatible. Does anyone know how to compress a large file, say a ripped movie from the internet, and put it into a file readable by a normal DVD player? Or better yet, anyone have experience with SonicDVD and can help further. I would really appreciate any help you have. THANK YOU

Just put all those files that DivXtoDVD makes to folder video_ts and burn DVD with that folder. Simply put: on DVD disk there should be one or two folders - video_ts and/or audio_ts. video_ts is for video files - including audio on film. audio_ts is ONLY for audio files. No video. If there is neither folder, then DVD-player can not recognize disk and refuses to play contents.

Ok, so after reading another post about panasonic dvd players being shitty I decided to try the dvd i made at my girlfriends house (she has a Koss), since I have a Panasonic that I bought in 1998. Smile Turns out that the file does play, it skips around a little and was in black and white, other than that it was fine. Any idea why it would do either of those? By skipping around i mean it started fine then immediately jumped to chapter 2 which was 5 minutes in. I guess my ultimate question is I want to author a DVD that I can add menus to and so on and i have a program called Sonic DVD which works great with avi, mpeg, and so on. Only problem it can only handle a movie up to about 40 minutes long or so. Is there any way anyone knows to either convert the power dvd files or the TS folder (which is plaenty small enough to use a 2 hour movie being only 1-2GB) to something I can use to make a SonicDVD or another program that you can add menus and things to? I appreciate all the help so far. Thank you. And by the way, DivxtoDvd and CopytoDvd both work great in my opinion. Thanks again.

SonicMyDVD is good to make dvd from your own videomaterial, as it usually comes from camera and is in mpeg-format. It is not so good to use with DivX or XviD - you will have to convert them first, thus loosing quality. Best shot at the moment is using DivXtoDVD to make conversions, then make menus with TMPGEnc. And to movie skipping - usually bad media used while burning or just simply dirty - fingerprints etc on disk. Might even be dirty laserhead on dvd-player. If movie is b/w and should be colour - then it is NTSC and your TV set can't show it properly.
