I just tried this; I have converted two part movie with previous version, resulting two different folders and filesets. Now I tried that same movie with batch-conversion. Original movie was NTSC 640x256 (2.50:1) [=5:2] 23,976 FPS 1054kb/s bitrate. Filesizes about 700MB both. I left settings on auto, resulting in fully working mpeg2video, 720x480, 29.97 fps, q=2-31, 4727 kb/s, audio ac3, 48000 Hz, 5:1, 448 kb/s. Total filesize of vobs 1.88GB Results are exactly the same than what I got from previous version. Even those two vobs are exact match. I was a bit conserned when log showed over hundred videopackets being abandoned due error, but there was no visible errors on converted movie. One thing I found - log says that DivXtoDVD is setting average bitrate to 4727,5 kb/s, then I checked final VOB - it has 1620kb/s. That results a lot smaller filesize. But - conclusion; Problem did not show up, so if you can give more information about when problem occurs and details about files, maybe even log?

Okay - that second file (Colonial Day), have you converted it? I got that file with packed bitstream, I think you have the same. Use MPEG4 Modifier to open those packed bitstreams, then try again. http://www.moitah.net/ -home of MPEG4 Modifier Something is badly wrong by checking your logs -

5 seconds movie? This might be a result of some new format of XviD packing. Does this same happen with older files, at least a few months older?

madmungu, I have exactly the same XviD as your first log so I will attempt to do DivXToDVD on it to see if I get the same issue but it will be a few hours before I post back the result as I'm @ work now! I have a couple of tools to analyse and report about the XviD format so if I get the same issue I will check out JJs idea. BTW - For a Telecine rip, the actual source XviD is pretty bad quality in the first place. It's such a long movie that even on 2CDs the MPEG-4 is low bit rate.

Just downloaded MPEG4 Modifier and ALL the NTSC files that give this problem have a packed bitstream and under User data it has DivX999b000p and XviD0036. and the PAL ones have Xvid0037. After unpacking the NTSC files they worked OK but the PAL file still gives the same quality. Glad you got Alexander working but I didn't have any problem at all when putting it directly through DivXToDVD so maybe it's a different DL we had! As for BSG, I have the same problem with the later episodes from the FOV group. Those from the SFM group seem fine so FOV have probably packed the later ones differently. (It seems the duration is incorrectly reported whether the header is packed or not which is what is throwing DivXToDVD off on bit-rate calculations.)

Confirm on both. No problems converting NTSC to PAL or PAL to NTSC. No problem on BSG episode by released by FOX. Episode lenght 0:41:55, screen 624*352pixels. Same problem with BSG episodes released by FOV. Episode lenght 0:41:47, screen 640*368pixels. When converting it sets average bitrate to -79716,7kb/s but during conversion it uses about 600kb/s, that will make bad result. DivXtoDVD claims lenght to be about 2 seconds. (actual is about 44minutes) Conversion finished - file lenght 240MB, quality poor, unusable. Here are example headers of both files: http://www.saunalahti.fi/jakomul/DivXtoDVD/example-fov.bin http://www.saunalahti.fi/jakomul/DivXtoDVD/example-fox.bin These are just headers, so they wont play. These are for developers to check and maybe create a fix.

More weird problems - when original file has been NTSC 23.98FPS, it has been automatically converted to NTSC 29.97FPS. That file plays fine with PowerPlayer. When I try to load it as DVD-file to TMPGEnc DVD-author (two movies - need to make menus too) it gives error "can not initialize decoder". Then I converted that same file again, this time forcing it to PAL 25FPS. Surprise - TMPGEnc loads it without problems! Pretty surprising. Next check was to try that original directly with TMPGEnc 2.5 - just to find out that TMPGEnc claims that file to be twice the lenght it actually is! Surprised Well.. nothing is perfect. So far looks like that best results are coming with DivXtoDVD, forcing to PAL. Wish it would have some way to make menus!

That must be a file specific issue as I've done quite a few from 23>29 FPS without problems.
JJ wrote:

Problem being the NTSC>PAL frame rate compensation used in DivXToDVD results in a noticeable repetitive stutter effect on the output. Even when converting 23FPS > 29FPS NTSC I still notice a repetative stutter with DivXToDVD (although it is much less than NTSC>PAL) - do you? From other applications, it seems there is supposed to be a 'jitter free' conversion process between NTSC @ 23 and that @ 29 - using pull-up/down techniques or wouldn't that apply here for some reason?

Thanks Clare - do you know if the topic of this thread is one of the minor bug fixes in this release?
