| I have dvdremake Pro 3.6.3 and was wondering is it possible to convert my dvd which is in 4.3 aspect ratio to to play on a 16.9 tv in the 16.9 mode. This would mean the 4.3 picture is still intact with black on either side but plays as 4.3 in 16.93 widescreen. Can this be done with dvdremake, if so how? |

| I think this is more of a display mode in your TV and dvd player's settings. Changing the aspect ratio of the movie is not going to help, i.e. it doesn't make sense to change from 4:3 to 16:9 in DRMP as the movie would be stretched out when watching on 16:9 TV. |

No but if you wanted to play the movie without having to change the aspect ratio to 4.3 on the tv this would be handy. Also if I wanted to add something that is in a 16.9 format to the 4.3 video it is not possible unless they are both in the same aspect ratio.
I know for example with Nero Vision you can specify what aspect ratio to burn the project in. So if it is a 4.3 video and you choose to burn it in 16.9 the end result is the picture is a 4.3 video that plays in correct proportion (no stretching) in 16.9 tv without having to adjust from widescreen. Also Pinnacle Studio allows you to drop a 4.3 video into a 16.9 project and the end result is the same ie 4.3 video in 16.9 format. Unfortunately these programs do not allow to retain for multiple audio types or subtitles. I wasn't sure if dvdremake had such a facility. Certainly would be handy. |

The programs you mentioned does require re-encoding to convert 4:3 to 16:9, but all it does is padding the left and right side with black bars. DvdReMake does not re-encode. What you can do is after you use NVE or Pinnacle Studio, demux the DVD files into elementary streams with PGCDemux. Then demux the original DVD files (4:3 source) into elementary streams in different folder with chapters (celltimes.txt). Then use MuxMan to combine the 16:9 video, the original multiple audio and subs, and the chapters. Replace the result in DvdReMake Pro using Copy and Paste in the VTS domain/Domain Content pane. |
